I haven’t done a movie review blog in a while, not because I haven’t seen any – I am pretty updated when it comes to the new movies coming out and have also seen some classics. I watched three movies during the past couple of days but they were just okay.
Maggie Q and Samuel L. Jackson’s The Protege, was way up in my alley so I liked it. Maggie Q rocks! Meanwhile, Henry Golding’s Snake Eyes was boring. The last 30 minutes were action-packed though. And despite my being bored for like 75% of the movies, I actually am looking forward to a sequel!
So yeah, let’s talk about this adaptation of Cinderella. I actually wasn’t interested in this, I actually forgot this was happening until I saw an Instagram post by Pierce Brosnan a few days ago. I don’t have any expectations and dove in and my my, I liked it. I liked it a lot!
The movie started with Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation and I was in love, then they mashed it up with Des’ree’s You Gotta Be when they introduced Cinderella. From then I knew that the music is going to be bomb, and I was not disappointed until the end. They ended it with freaking Let’s Get Loud! Plus Ed Sheeran’s Perfect during the ball was freaking perfect!
Ok, I am slightly disappointed that her gown was not blue though! I mean, I am all for all the changes but I wished they kept the blue gown! It was still such a beautiful gown though. ^^ I so love that Cinderella is a dressmaker and there was a whole discussion about love vs career. Cinderella literally chose her career over marrying a freaking Prince and I love that so much!
I probably laughed at every dialogue. Camila Cabello was surprisingly good, she has a knack for comedy. I love the character development of every freaking character. Cinderella wants a career. The stepsisters are not mean. Prince Charming has a sister named Gwen, who has such a cute hairstyle and is probably my favorite character. The Fabulous Godmother is fabulous! Obviously, I loved the King and Queen as well!
The stepmother is actually not so bad, although I gasped when she threw that black liquid on that beautiful dress! Let’s talk about her more – her character is so layered and there is really no way to hate her in this movie. She totally surprised me when she found the glass slipper and I didn’t think that was how she was going to react! She actually wanted Cinderella to go have a happy life with the Prince.
It has the same director as Pitch Perfect and New Girl and you can really notice that she has mastered this kind of style of movie / TV show. The movie totally reminded me of another fantasy musical Ella Enchanted.
I totally recommend this adaptation of Cinderella. 10/10 for me! It’s in my Top 3 along with that 1997 adaptation starring Brandy and Paolo Montalban, and Ever After starring Drew Barrymore. Of course, I know that this will probably be picked apart by the critics but I really don’t care. I mean, what are these people expecting?! This is a fairy tale with talking mice as characters! Also, if you are sick of Cinderella remakes then don’t fucking watch it. Cinderella will be remade over and over again until the world ends. If you are looking for a critically-acclaimed film, then go watch Interstellar, but if you are looking for silly escapism, then this is the movie for you. Be ready to be entertained and enjoy!
