Jun 27: The Artist’s Eye

Is there a painting or sculpture you’re drawn to? What does it say to you? Describe the experience. (Or, if art doesn’t speak to you, tell us why.)

I can only think of this.

I was totally fangirling when I saw this at Pinto Museum. I love the movie-musical, “Ang Larawan” and I also watched the play when I was either in grade school or high school as part of a school trip. The painting “The Flight” by Manny Garibay is an interpretation of the painting called “A Portrait of the Artist as A Filipino” in “Ang Larawan”, which is also the title of the original play by Nick Joaquin. The subject of the portrait as an image of Aeneas carrying his father Anchises out of the burning city of Troy. (Yes, I had to Google this because I don’t remember anymore!)

If you haven’t seen “Ang Larawan”, go watch it! Trust me, you will be singing the songs (even if you’re just inventing words, but the tune will always be on point!) and craving for tsokolate after!

Inspired by this ebook, “365 Days of Writing Prompts” posted here.
